Wegmans Food Markets officially opened its Lake Grove supermarket at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The 101,000-square-foot store is located at 3270 Middle Country Road in the DSW Plaza at Lake Grove.
This is the first Wegmans location on Long Island, joining 49 other locations across New York. Most are in the greater Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse areas, although there are two in New York City and one in Harrison.
Customers can find a range of fresh and prepared foods, including sushi, pizza, chef-made salads, and sandwiches. The made-to-order meals are alongside a vast selection of seafood, meats, bakery items, deli products, and cheeses.
The Lake Grove store employs more than 500 full- and part-time workers, featuring 14 full-service registers, 14 self-checkouts, and 636 parking spaces. The supermarket will be open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.
The Suffolk County Police Department issued a traffic advisory, warning drivers of congestion around the store on opening day. Social media posts showed excited shoppers flocking inside as soon as they could in the morning.
Now at 112 stores, Wegmans is planning to open at least two more locations in 2025. Rockville, Maryland, will get a supermarket in June, one month before the chain will open its first Connecticut store in Norwalk.
Wegmans was founded in Rochester, NY, in 1916.
